A lot of people have asked me, “How do ya’ll know No I.D. how did ya’ll get that feature”. It’s a pretty interesting story actually, and I told ya’ll I would tell it one day. So if you’re like me and like to know how stuff happens, feel free to continue reading, if you don’t skip to the next post. I know reading stories these days is hard, most people want a video. But I’m not going to make a video of myself telling a story about the unofficial making of a behind the scenes video. Just not gonna do it.

I hit up No I.D. about two weeks before the 2nd Air Yeezy release (Black and Pink for my sneakerheads) to see about getting Kanye to do a video drop about the release at Standard. He said he could get it done, but (there is usually a “but” with Deon) he wanted a guaranteed pair of the Yeezy’s in return. Now he already had 1 pair, comped by Mr. West, but he wanted an extra, he was willing to pay for them though. This wasn’t an easy decision, we only got 12 pairs and we knew we would have a line for the sneakers the second we announce we were getting them. I personally didn’t want to hold any pairs for anyone, I like going off the 1st come 1st serve method. Even if I could do it, Farshad had the final say. At the end we agreed on the deal, and pulled a pair just for him. We were actually able to get an extra pair though our homie VS (#thehoookup), so we ended up not even losing anything. Thanks VS.

Now it was time for No I.D. to hold up his end of the deal. To make a Long story made a little bit shorter, we never got the drop from Mr. West. Kanye wasn’t doing any drops for anyone just to be fair, and I respected that. Even though Deon never came through on that deal, I kept it “in my back pocket” so to speak.

When D.O.A. dropped I had the idea to get No I.D.’s point of view on the track being that he produced it, and it was such an epic record. At the time my friend Zach Wolfe was in full video mode shooting everything in site. I ran it past him, he was crazy stoked, his co-sign really motivated me to make it happen. After trying to go through a few people to get in touch with No I.D. I finally decided to just email him (sometimes you got to do it yourself). I emailed him at like 2 am one night, he was in New York working on BP3 but was going to come ATL in the moring to “check his mail”.

He agreed that the video was a fair trade for not getting the drop. He was down but never gave me a confirmation. I went over to Studio 900 the next day to holler at Zach about some other shit (other shit: Bun B x Zach Wolfe x Standard photo tee) and was telling him that No I.D. agreed to do the interview. While we hit the road to go check out samples of the shirts, Deon hits me on the email and says “6pm St. Regis”. It was on.

The best thing about this video is that none of it was planned, none of it was though out. It was all spontaneous. Zach had a vision in his head and when we got to the room it just worked out perfectly. Some of the questions were thought out before hand, but for the most part it was just a regular conversation caught on video. A dope video. There was so much said that day which we never put out, because we tried to keep it relevent to the D.O.A. topic. But don’t worry it’s archived, and one day, when the time is right. We’ll share it.

How did you manage to pick a song for this video. Just wondering.
